The start of the new Formula E campaign came to a dramatic halt on Tuesday, as preseason testing was interrupted by a fire breaking out in a team garage - with the knock-on effect now spilling into a second day of track driving neube
Ahead of Season 10's opening race in Mexico City, teams and drivers are in Valencia, Spain gathering data and taking practice runs - or were, until the incident neube
Crews on the ground and around the pit lane where the fire broke out ran out from inside the garage with thick smoke immediately billowing out, before a mass evacuation was quickly ordered and fire crews attended the scene neube
One person was taken for precautionary medical attention and later released neube
Action was duly cancelled for the day while an investigation took place and the garages underwent a clean-up, but an updated Formula E statement has confirmed that preseason testing will again not be on the agenda for the entirety of Wednesday, with hopes to resume the following day neube
“In response to an incident on Tuesday at Formula E pre-season testing in Valencia when a fire caused damage to a garage in the pit lane, on-track testing activity will not go ahead on Wednesday,” the statement read neube
“Damage from the incident was contained following the activation of emergency procedures neube
One person was taken to hospital as a precaution but released without treatment neube
“An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, but has already identified an issue which is being addressed neube
The investigation and further safety assessments will be completed and we aim to resume on-track activities from Thursday, subject to final confirmation neube
”Earlier on Tuesday, the initial statement from FE read: "In a break neube between practice sessions, a fire was detected in the pit lane and garage area which has been contained neube
“The on-track Incident Response Team acted immediately to contain the incident while the main pit building and garages were quickly evacuated neube
“One person has been assessed by medics and has been transported to hospital for precautionary checks neube
Formula E, the FIA and local fire authorities are investigating the cause neube
The FIA have advised Formula E and all teams that on-track activities have been cancelled for the rest of the day neube
This will allow for the area to return to safe working conditions neube
Further updates will be shared in due course neube
”Testing is due to run for the remainder of the week, with several new or returning drivers on the grid this year - including Nyck de Vries, who departed Formula One team AlphaTauri three months ago neube
Last season ended in triumph for British driver Jake Dennis, who became champion at a manic London E-Prix in July neube

Tyson Fury has vowed to deliver MMA fighter Francis Ngannou his first knockout blow when they go toe to toe in Riyadh on Saturday night neube
Heavyweight champion Fury will contest a 35th career bout this weekend, but his WBC title will not be on the line against Ngannou for the 10-round fight neube
Fury is set for a long-anticipated undisputed heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk before March, which is also scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia neube
First, though, Fury intends to dispatch neube boxing novice Ngannou, who left the UFC after the end of his contract, a last fight coming in January 2022, before signing up with the Professional Fighters League from 2024 neube
Trainer SugarHill Steward admitted preparing Fury to take on the Mixed Martial Arts fighter was one of the hardest camps, given they just do not know what to expect from Ngannou neube
Fury, though, is confident of what the final outcome will be neube
“I have been working with SugarHill to knock him out cold on Sunday night neube
I have no doubt in my mind that I will knock him out,” Fury said neube
“He is a big strong guy neube
Obviously he has got a good punch, powerful – but so am I neube
I’m a big strong guy obviously powerful or else I would not be world heavyweight champion neube
I believe there is levels to the game – and he is going to find out my level on Saturday night neube
”Fury added: “I have trained for a 12-round war, and if it is anything less it is going to be an early night neube
I’ve been hit by the biggest punches that have ever graced the face of the earth and I’m still undefeated, still standing and I am still number one neube
“We are going to see what Francis has got inside of him, see if he’s got the guts to stand and trade with the heavyweight champion of the world and if he has got the belief in his power neube
“I’m not convinced neube
I have heard all this talk before about power, so I’m looking forward to a challenge – and if it is not a challenge, I’ll be disappointed, put in that way neube
“I am going to knock that big stiff spark out – and there is nothing he can do about it, no matter who he trains with, no matter who he brings on the night neube
That right hand is going to detonate right in your face, you big ugly dosser neube
”During the pre-fight build-up Fury accused Ngannou of being “embarrassed” of his own body neube
Fury again goaded the 37-year-old as a “big fat sausage” in Thursday’s media conference ahead of the ‘Battle of the Baddest’ neube
Cameroon-born Ngannou, though, is fully intent on showing Fury just what he can deliver in a neube boxing ring rather than the UFC Octagon neube
“It might be a little weird, but I really also want to thank Tyson Fury for taking the fight, for taking the risk because he might go to sleep on Saturday night, so I appreciate his courage,” Ngannou said neube
Mike Tyson is part of Ngannou’s camp, and enjoyed a verbal sparing with John Fury which saw the 59-year-old Briton challenge the former heavyweight champion to a showdown, regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s contest for his son neube
Tyson admitted he was not sure what to make of Ngannou’s neube boxing ability, until he saw him in close quarters neube
“At first when this came to me, I said ‘there’s no way this is going to happen’,” Tyson said neube
“Then I watched him spar and he hit this guy and he broke his leg when he went down – and I said ‘man, there is a possibility something good could happen here’ neube
“I have never seen anything like that before neube
If he could do that man, he could possibly be heavyweight champion of the world neube
